Common territorial challenges tackled by the project.
Mediterranean coastal tourism is by far the most significant in terms of tourist flows and generation of income.
In spite of the large number of visitors, Med coastal regions are suffering from the changes in the demand of the holidaymakers that in the past spent long period in the same place, nowadays they experience different kinds of holidays several times in the year, setting aside 1-2 weeks for the sea vacations in the most favorable Med weather period.
The above is causing an increase in the seasonality of the traditional Med 3S (sun, sand, sea) destinations where the yearly peaking of tourism activities during a few hectic weeks results in inefficiency within the tourism industry, a huge impact on the resources and needs of the local population and puts local infrastructure and habitats under enormous pressure, in a nutshell, a specific challenge to the sustainability of destinations’ tourism activity.
Diversification of tourism offerings to reduce seasonality.
The promotion of the diversification of tourism offerings represent the main challenge for coastal policies.
Diversification can contribute in improving the attractiveness of coastal destinations and enabling them to move beyond the traditional 3S (“sun, sea and sand”) model towards 3E (excitement, education, entertainment) model.
The promotion of the diversification of tourism offerings represents the main challenge for coastal policies.
It can: (i) contribute to improving the attractiveness of coastal destinations and enabling them to move beyond the traditional 3S (“sun, sea and sand”) model towards 3E (excitement, education, entertainment) model; (ii) help to extend the season, producing multiple benefits, among which are:
    • the reduction of the environmental, economic, social impact and pressure caused by concentrating tourism into a few weeks/months of the year;
    • the creation of new activities supporting the preservation and development of the area’s heritage.

Good morning everybody, we read this project idea and despite we are an energy agency (Livorno, Italy) we could see some possible involvement in the project taking into consideration in particular the idea of educating tourists from the energy saving point of view. Infact if you reduce the massive presence of tourists in one place in the same month or weeks (especially in islands), we can reduce also the problem of energy black outs and lack of water. I can send you some more news about our company and in case you are interested in our partnership, don’t hesitate to contact us, thanks Susanna Ceccanti

    Associazione Culturale SUD

    Dear Uligino,
I represent a non-profit organization active in European projects. I read your proposal and I believe that our association has the requirements to be able to present itself as a partner of your proposal. We have good experience in European programs, especially with regard to the design and construction of routes and tourist circuits of various kinds (food and wine, nature, etc ..). We are in a rural area with a strong tourist attraction. There are UNESCO sites (towns of Modica, Scicli, Noto, Ragusa) there are valuable natural sites (Ispica valley) and there is the beautiful sea.
We partecipated in several project for diversification tourismo offerings and to reduce seasonality also because our area is full of alternatives: over the sea, we have several sites UNESCO, we have beautiful natural landscapes, we have the climate that allows it.
We are currently working on two community projects (ONMEST 2 – ENPI CBC Med and COMPASS – Italy-Tunisia) and other European projects (regional direction) which always include the creation of tourist circuits.
We can join directly as partners or together with one or more municipalities or with other association.
For any clarification, do not hesitate to contact me.
    Best regards
    Paolo

    Vasileios Papaioannou

    Dear Uligino

I represent the Municipality of Patras, a city of 214.000 inhabitants tin the west region of Greece.
City of Patras is a city of culture and sports. Among the others Patras hosts the oldest and biggest Carnival in Greece with more than 20.000 participants in the Big Parade during each February. It is very alive also in theater, dance, photography and ceramics.
City of Patras has a coast line of 35 km from which the 25km are appropriate for swimminng and other activities. Other acitivites such as kitesurf and windsurf in the area of Cape Drepano which attracts visitors from all over Greece and Europe during all year.
On the east side of Patras exists Mountain Panachaikon, 1.900 m high, which spans about 20 km in length from north to south, and 15–20 km from east to west. The mountain has two shelters, Greece’s largest wind farm with 40 generators. Snow is common in areas over 1,000 m in the winter and Paragliding is common in areas under 1,100 m.
Patras is a city with the potentials of hosting turists during all year and not only summer.
This is the reason we are more than interested for your project.

I am more than welcome for any more info you may need.

    BSC, Ltd., Kranj

    Dear Uligino,

I represent a Regional Development Agency of Gorenjska, http://www.bsc-kranj.si/home, and although we are not a coastal region, your project idea sounds very interesting and appealing. Synergies can be found in diversification of tourism offer to reduce seasonality in our case due to climate change. In the previous programme period there were projects tackling this issue and they show positive results that can be identified as good practices. However there is always room for development and upgrading the existing offer especially in the sense of eco-systemic approach.

If you are interested to share more ideas on the topic, please do not hesitate to contact me on blanka.odlazek@bsc-kranj.si

    Kindest regards,

    Dimitrios Kintsakis

    Dear all,

he Municipality of VOLVI, is situated in Northern Greece and we believe that combines all the issues on which you focus by your proposed project. Furthermore the Municipality has been involved in several european funded programs, especially Interreg Programs, so it has a great experience.

We believe that our municipality can achieve the transaction from 3S to 3Es and expand the tourism industry period in an annual basis, using its agriculture and agritourism – culture and cultural events – medical tourism , etc.

    Thank you in advance

    Dimitris Kintsakis
    Consultant of Municipality of Volvi

    Dear Uligino,

I write on behalf of the Municipality of Cervia to express the interest on yuor project idea and on sharing more information about it. My e-mail is melchiorris@comunecervia.it .

I summarise below the reasons why you idea draw our attention:
    – The Municipality of Cervia (about 29,700 inhabitants) is an Italian local authority that spreads over a surface of 82.19 km2 between the Adriatic Sea in the East and the cities Ravenna (North-West), Cesena (West) and Cesenatico (South). The coastal strip, where the Municipality is located, is characterized by a high urbanization index and by predominantly touristic activities. Being a famous touristic resort, Municipality of Cervia counts every year about 4 million days of presence, mainly concentrated during the summertime seaside season.
    – Cervia is famous for being an important touristic resort for the Emilia-Romagna Region coast, but first of all it is very well-known as an ancient salt town. Even if salt production does not represent the most important source of income for the town, the saltpans of Cervia still play a fundamental role in the development of the naturalistic, historical and cultural tourism both at local and national level. The Saltpan of Cervia, is part of the Po Delta Park, is a Site of community importance (D.M. 65/00), a Ramsar zone for the protection of wild birds (D.M. 13/7/81), and Natural reserve for animals (D.M. 31/1/79)
    – The coastal pinewood is worth to mention and is included in the Po delta Park too
    – The environmental and landscape distinctive features within the local territory are many ones and offer wide opportunities (culture, nature, typical products, sports, wellness, etc.) to work on 3E, with the aim of moving over 3S
    – Besides the local authorities’ typical functions, Cervia has always paid attention towards the sustainable development, considering it in its wider meaning (economical, environmental and social). It is very active in policies safeguarding and valorising the environment and its natural resources, as well as the historical-cultural heritage. It has a long experience in the touristic promotion and in policies aimed at valorising the environment and its natural resources as well as the historical-cultural heritage (also through EU funds). For this reason, it could bring its experience in the project and be active in the project preparation if necessary
    – Since 2006 a “European Office” has been established to provide the municipality’s services/sectors with assistance in EU projects’ development & accounting, so it has gained a sound experience in the field of EU funded projects development and implementation

    Waiting for your kind feedback
    Best wishes
    Simona Melchiorri
