REDUCING THE SEASONALITY AND DEVELOP ALL INCLUSIVE TOURISM
Good morning everyone,
we represent the Municipality of Castellana Grotte, in Puglia (Italy), the most appreciated Italian tourist region of the last years.
Our territory is interested by a large influx of tourists which is an essential part of local economy. The Municipality owns a fabulous speleological complex: enchanting Caves, a 3 km path in the heart of the Mother Earth, fully accessible.
Our Town is particularly full of tourists in summer time, even if the Caves are enjoyable along the entire year. The results in terms of seasonal adjustment are satisfying, but they can be markedly improved.
A particular aspect of our tourism concerns the inclusive tourism, in fact in 2013 the City of Castellana Grotte has been awarded with the prestigious European EDEN prize as European Destination of Excellence
We have also developed experience in the field of international cooperation with two projects:
Community Initiative Programme INTERREG III A / Italy – Albania 2000-2006 – Axis IV – Measure 4.3 “Development of institutional and cultural cooperation” from 2007 to 2008 (as Leader Partner)
Community Initiative Programme INTERREG III A / Greece – Italy 2000-2006 – Axis 3 “Environment and Cultural Heritage – Measure 3.2″ Enhancement, recovery and development of the historical and cultural common interest; enhancement and promotion Castellana and Perama’ caves” from 2007 to 2008.
Our idea is to:
• Develop a strategy to reduce the seasonality of tourism demand, through the combination of the winning binomial nature – culture, decreasing the environmental pressures;
• Preserve and enhance the artistic and cultural identity and values, proposing a package of offers, combining local cultural, nature and traditional delicious cooking;
• Implement the inclusive tourism offer, providing personalized journeys according to special tourist’s need.We look for interested partners

PaoloGood morning,
I represent a non-profit organization that works on European projects. I read your proposal and I think it is very interesting.
We have experience in European programs especially with regard to the design and construction of routes and tourist circuits of various kinds (food and wine, nature, etc ..). Also we have worked to develop a strategy to reduce the seasonality and to preserve and enhance the artistic and cultural identity and values, proposing a package of offers, combining local cultural, nature and traditional cooking….and much more…..
We are in an area with a strong tourist attraction. There are UNESCO sites (towns of Modica, Scicli, Noto, Ragusa) there are valuable natural sites (Ispica valley), there is the sea.
We are currently working on two community projects (ONMEST 2 – ENPI CBC Med and COMPASS – Italy-Tunisia) and other European projects (regional direction) which always include the creation of tourist circuits.
For any clarification, do not hesitate to contact me. Find below some links regarding the projects that we are pursuing.
Best regards

http://www.projet-compass.eu/it/index.php (we have the technical support for the municipalities of Scicli and Pozzallo)28 September 2015 at 12 h 19 min #5857Dear Sirs,
We are the “Diputación de Granada” (Provincial Council of Granada) that is the Local Government of the Province of Granada (Andalusia, Spain). Our institution is a Local Public Administration that represents 172 municipalities.
Our province has mainly a rural character and tourism is one of the key drivers for development of our territory. The tourist attractive of our municipalities derives from presence of cultural and natural heritage (big part of the province is under some way of legal protection for natural spaces). Besides, one of the problems we have to face is the seasonality of tourism and problems derived from it.
We have great experience in European projects as leaders and partners in most of the European Programmes and Initiatives. Many of them linked to matters of your project idea and several of them in the framework of Programmes INTERREG (MED, SUDOE, INTERREG IV C). As examples the following projects:
– CesR: Support local rural entities to promote job mutualism in services sector linked to tourism and social services (INTERREG IV C)
– TOURAGE: Promote senior tourism as a tool to fight against tourism seasonality and promote employment and development of rural areas (INTERREG IV C)
– CULTURMED: Promote natural, cultural, historical and landscape heritage of Alpujarra area to support the declaration of this territory as part of World Heritage (POCTEFEX Spain-Morocco)
– ETNOMED: Increase the potential of common ethnographic heritage in the province of Granada and Northern Morocco (POCTEFEX Spain-Morocco)
– NETWORK OF MINOR HISTORICAL CENTRES: Cultural, touristic and natural raise in value of minor historical centres (INTERREG III B MEDOCC)We consider your project idea fits with needs and interests of big part of our province. We will be very grateful if you contact with us in order to give us more information about the project. Contact data:

AdrianaDear colleagues,
The Local Action Group Južna Istra ( http://www.lag-juznaistra.hr/) is a NGO situated in Istria-Croatia and was created as a result of EU initiatives aiming the development of local strategies and supporting stakeholder networking&partnership (composed from civil, public and private sectors in equal parts). The LAG South Istria network includes 10 local governments and can represent and include them in the project.
The LAG South Istria has already organized a series of initiatives, events and educations with the aim of ensuring the flow of information and knowledge transfer for progress in the sustainable development of the rural economy and local communities, to develop synergies and networking between all entities who are interested in contributing to the development of rural areas reaching cohesion and the standards of the EU.
Even if the territory is strongly touristic developed, there is a need to strengthen peripheral locations that have a rich cultural history but do not record so many visits, as well even though they have access to the sea does not use its coastline for tourism purposes.
In all locations is strongly present the heritage from Rome,Venice and Austro Hungarian Empire. In the territory are presents more fortresses, shipwrecks, medieval churches and castles and one of the biggest collection of religious art and relics; it registers a strong history of production of olive oil, a multitude of endemic species and good location for birth watching. As well we have a strong fisherman tradition. Despite all that, there is a need for valorization of heritage of the territory because tourists mostly visits “In” destinations since missing a tool that would easily present the richness of our territory. We are also developing a project about Agriculture and tourism-innovative model for the development of rural Istria and sustainable management of natural resources. The project aims to contribute to the development of ecological livestock through the sustainable use of natural resources and put this activity to a higher level by enrich rural areas and give new life to the uncultivated Land owned by the State, Municipalities and also Private. This project would be through a co-operative, as a social network, contributing to regional development in practice through 8 integrated and multifunctional production and tourism working units.
We would like to participate in a MED project as partners, and if you choose us as a partner for the project, you will have a responsible and professional partner with whom you can achieve the common goals of sustainable economic development.
According to above mentioned, we invite you to consider the possibility of cooperation with us. In the case of interest, we kindly ask you to contact us in order to undertake the further steps related to our future and hopefully successful cooperation.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon,
Sincerely Adriana

Julia Sáiz-PardoDear colleagues,
We are interested in participating in your project.
Please, find below a general information about our institution:
The Legacy of al-Andalus Andalusian Public Foundation is run by the Regional Government of Andalusia (Spain). Our actions are developed in all Andalusia region. Our main activities are cultural and tourist and we have experience in different European projects (as leaders and partners).
Our Routes, the Routes of El legado andalusí, represents the biggest cultural tourism offer existing today in southern Spain; through an extensive itinerary that includes more than 200 towns, they connect the main capital cities of Andalusia. The Routes of El legado andalusí were designated in 2004 as Major Cultural Itinerary of the Council of Europe; From our headquarters at the Pavilion of al-Andalus and Science (Granada, Spain) (4,477m2), the Foundation carries out a good number of didactic activities and workshops to raise awareness on the Foundation’s labour and to promote its Cultural Itineraries and Tourist Routes.
Concerning European Projects, the Foundation has participated as leader or partner in different programs INTERREG IVC, POCTEP, POCTEFEX, GRUNDVIGT, LEONARDO and ENPI-CROSS BORDER COOPERATION. All of them focused on education, culture, tourism and social integration. Nowadays, we are leader of Umayyad project (ENPI-CROSS BORDER COOPERATION):
At Mediterranean level, tourism has often led many countries and regions to develop the industry in a competitive way rather than in a cooperative manner. For obvious climatic reasons but also due the role played by tour operators, Mediterranean tourism destinations have based their growth essentially on a “sun and sea” vision and developed strategies aimed at maximizing short term profits instead of addressing the needs and expectations of customers and residents. In this sense, there is a real need to adopt and introduce new consumer models translated into environmentally friendly tourism products, respecting natural resources and diversifying the seasonal nature of tourism demand. The UMAYYAD project contributes to this objective by promoting sustainable tourism based on the synergies derived from the design of a cross-border itinerary between 6 countries sharing common history and cultural background.
Our main skills are:
-Management and coordination of European projects experience.
-Mobility (Grundtvig) activities and experience.
-Organization of cultural activities experience.
-Organization of Educational activities experience.
-Organization of tourist activities and experience. (Routes of The Legacy of al-Andalus).
-Planification and materialization of tourist Routes.
-Experience in organization of activities with stakeholders, companies and entrepreneurs.
-Experience in organization of activities related with traditional and contemporary arts and crafts.More than 60 themed exhibitions organized, more than 3,200,000 people have visited these exhibitions, which have implied the biggest movement of museum pieces ever carried out in Spain. Editorial work, having published more than 80 books in several collections on themed matters.

My name is Chatzilamprou Ismini and I am writing to you on behalf of the Region of Thessaly in Greece.
Your project idea is one of high interest to us. Thessaly Region is a place with strong attachments to traditions and it is also a region of high seasonal tourism, especially in summer time, although as you say there are places that are open all year long such as Meteora. Our scope seems to be the same as yours and a cooperation would be very interesting.
Our R&D team has a big experience in EU projects, on different project programs and of different disciplines and has previous experience in MED projects.
If you are interested in having the Region as a partner, please contact us at: topoismini@gmail.com. I will be at your disposal for any further information you might need.
Best regards,
Ismini -
