The water frame directive 2000/60 EC ratify that any action on the rivers should not reduce the river quality in terms of biological, morphological and physiochemical quality. A natural river, characterized by an high morphological quality is in continuous evolution, it is characterized by high rates of sediment transport with the relative processes of erosion and deposition. This means that in some cases the river bed may migrate laterally for hundreds of meters with the consequent damages for the owners of the land next to the rivers. Even more frequently the sediment transport is the cause of occlusion or static instability of bridges and it may also trigger landslides on the riparian slopes. All these cited examples shows as the interest of protecting the quality of the riverine environment is often in conflict with other interest such as the landslide risk mitigation and the economical exploitation of the land next to the river. These conflicts are particularly acute in the case of protected natural area. We would like to focus our project on the research of possible measures that can conjugate the preservation of the morphological quality of the river with the other interests that lay on the same territory. This can be done by searching innovative solutions and developing a “river agreement” between all the stakeholders. Our testbed case is a river catchment in Campania region (south Italy) that is part of a national protected area and is experiencing the conflicts discussed above.
Given the very short time before the deadline of the call we would rather like to join a group that is already formed than to form a new one. Is there a group focusing on this topic? We are public institution in Italy.
Type of partner that we are looking for: riverine environment protected areas with emphasis on endangered and/or N2k species and habitats.
Also, institutional, operational and scientific local stakeholders, but only in connection with above mentioned type of protected area
Programme priority axis: PRIORITY AXIS 3: Protecting and promoting Mediterranean natural and cultural resources
Programme priority axis specific objective: To maintain biodiversity and natural ecosystems through strengthening the management and networking of protected areas
    Type of project (module): M1+M2

    Good afternoon.

The Department of Environment, Land and Infrastructure Engineering of Polytechnic University of Turin (Politecnico di Torino) could be interested in your project. Indeed, our expertise concerns with River Hydraulics, Hydraulic Engineering and Morphodynamic.

For the Interreg calls, it is not advisable for us to be the Lead partner.

For further details please contact me.

    Best regards

    Dear Mr. Viccione

I am writing you on behalf of Albanian National Environmental Agency which is a national monitoring institution in charge with the monitoring of the state of environmental indicators in whole the country. The monitoring includes the main environmental components such as : waters (surface, groundwater, bathing and coastal waters), air monitoring, soils, and biodiversity (forests). Among other monitoring capacities we have also our laboratory with all the monitoring equipment for the analyzing of the quality components of waters. Every year we perform the monitoring of water quality in all the country ( rivers, lakes, bathing and coastal waters and ground waters) Based on the datas collected we do further assessments regarding the state of health of these water quality by also developing further analysis on the quality state of them. Considering that we are a candidate country towards EU and some obligations of legislation approximation and implementation including also those concerning the water quality and WFD implementing it would be very interesting joining these initiative by using these approach and thats of your project idea for putting them together and further developing from an EU MC and non EU MC perspective and sharing of common experiences and implementing of common challenges on the above proposal regard.

Thanking you for the attention and looking forward your interest

    Dear Mr. Viccione,
we are interested to participate in the project partnership around the theme you have presented. Is it still possible to join the project partnership?
We are a Regional development agency for the coastal region in Slovenia and we would like to develop a project related to preservation of riverine morphological and ecological qualities using innovative solutions, in close cooperation with stakeholders and population in the area.
    Regards

    Dear Mr Viccione

Your project sounds very interesting and within the fields of interest of our group of research in our laboratory of the University of Thessaly, Greece.

The Hydromechanics and Environmental Engineering Laboratory, Department of Civil Engineering, University of Thessaly, Greece, supports research and teaching in the areas of Environmental fluid mechanics, deterministic and stochastic modeling of environmental time series, impact of regional and global climate change on water resources, ecosystems modeling, The laboratory is funded by the Greek State, European Union and local government agencies and it is founding member of the research and education network HYDROMEDON.

We also have strong relationship and cooperation with local authorities and municipalities in the region of Thessaly and Macedonia. We would like to participate in your project on the research of possible measures that can conjugate the preservation of the morphological quality of the river with the other interests that lay on the same territory which can be done by searching innovative solutions and developing a “river agreement” between all the stakeholders

Looking forward to hearing from you in case you are interested in a partnership. Please do not hesitate to contact us to discuss any further details.

    Dear all

After discussing the project’s idea with the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki they expressed the interest to become the leader of the project with our support of course. They also think that we can expand the project to surface water bodies, meaning rivers and lakes also. As there is no much time left for the writing of the proposal please those of you that are still interested in a partnership send us an e-mail with your ideas and regions of interest.

    Contact e-mail: zpapavasil@uth.gr

Please do not hesitate to contact us to discuss any further details.
