[Sustainable Eel Management]

We are looking for partners in the MED to built an integrated project on Eel ecosystem management in the MED area. We already have our lead partner in Italy and other partners from Spain and Montenegro and we are looking for partners in a third EU MED country possibly NUTSI or NUTS II.

Title: Promoting the protection and sustainable use of Eel in the Mediterranean Ecosystems through Effective Management and Networks (Eelement)

Short Description: The project aims at creating an integrated and sustainable approach for Eel management in wetland and coastal protected areas in the Mediterranean Sea. It focuses on strengthening local and regional capacities and governance in the effective management of eel habitats and other area-based conservation measures within four pilot countries. The project places an emphasis on multiple stakeholders and coalitions between science, conservation and industry interests for enhance the sustainable use of eel stocks for the benefit of communities, local economies and traditions while reducing biodiversity losses. It will build practical application; create management tools, citizen science and education material based on research studies. The project will also aim at reducing illegal fishing, sharing best practice, real-time catch monitoring and facilitating the migration of silver eels to improve the breeding success of the population in line with a wide strategy implemented all over Europe as part of the Eel Regulation 1100/2007 and Member States Eel Management Plans.
