ENERCOUTIM is an association for the promotion of Renewable Energy in the South of Portugal, a region which enjoys one of the highest solar radiation levels in Europe. ENERCOUTIM has launched in 2010 its International Solar Energy Demonstration Platform, which it operates and manages for its clients. The platform features today 4MW capacity of CPV technologies from multiple manufacturers, with 2MW of PV planned for deployment in early 2016. Further expansion plans are on pipeline and already taking shape. Find out more at en.enercoutim.eu.

The demonstration platform’s shared services infrastructure approach represents a creative and innovative departure from the legacy models to the accommodation of innovative energy production technologies capacity. The model offers clients who settle in the platform not only CAPEX and OPEX reductions but also the offset of a number of concerns which normally constitute a burden in clean energy projects, such as dealing with specialized O&M, Security, Operations Management, and Marketing activities, as with resource-consuming processes of licencing and permitting for energy production. Since its inception, the platform has also brought together a diverse set of international investors to a once remote rural area of Portugal.

ENERCOUTIM aims at and is actively working on launching new demonstration and/or R&I pilot projects, and will be supporting new ventures in the renewable energy, smart grids and smart cities sectors and has recently initiated development of its research infrastructure. It operates its solar platform under a plug-and-produce approach and is currently working on integrating an energy storage facility. Whilst interest in the platform grows, and more scientific technological, industrial spin-off activities are generated, the more the regional economy benefits.

Taking its successful, award-winning, solar energy platform developments into account, ENERCOUTIM intends to test expansion of its concept in other contexts of the MED region. At ENERCOUTIM, we believe our shared infrastructure and services model is key to unlock further penetration of RES at a regional level, particularly in the local, rural and/or island environments, and thus to give Sustainability a boost in these areas.

We are looking for partners to integrate a project proposal under Interreg MED Objective 2.2 – “To increase the share of renewable local energy sources in energy mix strategies and plans in specific MED territories”. There is particular interest in entities with expertise and relevant experience in 1) support with design of regional and/or island energy planning strategies and plans, 2) stakeholders engagement in context of regional-scale RES projects, and 3) strategic impact analysis and evaluation of project replication potential. Undergoing project efforts have gathered partners from Portugal, Greece and Italy.

ENERCOUTIM has a young but robust track record of R&D and/or Innovation proposals partaking and/or coordination with ERANET, KIC InnoEnergy and H2020 clean energy-related calls.
