    “PRIORITY AXIS 1: SMART MED.
Promoting Mediterranean innovation capacities to develop smart and sustainable growth.
Specific Objective 1.1: To increase transnational activity of innovative clusters and networks of key sectors of the MED area.

Types of actions: The development of clusters and networks, development of models and tools, transfer of knowledge, awareness-raising and capitalisation activities.
Key target groups: SMEs, economic operators and structures accompanying them; public authorities and research structures.”

Trieste has developed in the last years an innovative productive sector. 60 companies are operating in the Biomedical (BioMed), Biotechnology (BioTech) and Bioinformatics (BioICT), sectors each other interconnected and definable, as a whole industrial cluster, the BioHighTech. The development has been possible thanks to the knowledge transfer from the University/Research System to the local Small-Medium Enterprises, and the support of the public sector.
The proposed MED project (or at least our part of the project) would like to implement the issue of the Governance, with the quadruple helix approach, involving Institutions (Local and/or regional goverments); Academia (Universities, other Research Institutes, Training Institutes), Industry (Clusters or SMEs); Civil Participation (Communication, programmes or events of scientific information for the citizenship). The four ‘helix blades’, working together has the objective to co-create and drive structural changes, particularly in the urban contexts, increasing and sharing innovation. Each partner should already have a local network covering the quadruple order of activity.
The (multi-module) project will realize the definition of an operative, sustainable methodology of the quadruple helix model applicable in urban framework (Module 1 Studying), and will implement sectorial or crosscutting activities in each component of the helix (Module 2 Testing).
To support the innovative approach of the project, it is interesting to have partners that are developing a cluster in the green or blue economy, or anyway partners (networks or clusters) involved in urban economic development based on innovative productions (e.g. New materials; Chemistry/Medical pruductions, Biotech products, Genetics, Informatics; other Smart technologies or Clean productions.
Partner search: if interested, send a short profile of your organization and the activity you plan to realize in the project, at demarcol@comune.trieste.it.
