    Municipality Pizzo Calabro – Calabria

INTRODUCTION: in the last two decades it was demonstrated that the Mediterranean diet – such as a way of life and feeding – is one of the most effective preventive cares against the cardiovascular diseases.
Unfortunately, nowadays one of its components is deeply changed: people have a sedentary lifestyle, which has decreased the preventive effectiveness of this diet.
For this reason the new Mediterranean generations, which had a lower risk; now have the same risk of other people, who do not follow a Mediterranean diet.
After all it is possible to counteract this kind of negative alteration; in fact on the Mediterranean live a lot of people, whose customs and traditions could interact together to create an interplay of styles of life, environment and feeding.
This trilogy probably will have a strategic role to prevent cardiovascular diseases and to improve the quality of people’s lives.

    PURPOSE:
    1. Carry out a reconnaissance of customs, traditions and diets of the Mediterranean populations.
    2. Create “The village of Europe” : a space of “interchange and contamination” of the Mediterranean cultures and flavors. Physically this space will assume the connotation of urban rural village in the Mediterranean, composed by a multifunctional unit, multi-unit storage of knowledge and tastes of the various Mediterranean countries. The construction of this area will be built by eco-sustainable technology able to provide a safe environment to the most vulnerable social groups (children and elderly).

METHODS: The project will have a modular approach:
    Module 1:
feasibility study with a scientific survey of the lifestyle of people of Mediterranean, kind of diet, preventive analysis of confounding factors, determination by SWOT analysis of the strengths and the weakness; reformulation of knowledge for the sustainable implementation of a pilot study, which in addition to the physical space of the village, allowing the creation of a park of Mediterranean biodiversity and define processes, strategies and implementations of good organizational practices.
    Module 2:
will be implemented the functioning of the European village and its practices with the development of a transnational tourism annual affordable and respectful of territorial identity and knowledge and Mediterranean flavors.
    Module 3:
development of guidelines on the new “Mediterranean style”; creation of operational protocols for implementation of natural patterns of Mediterranean biodiversity, recommendations for sustainable tourism on the Mediterranean.
Results expected: 1) better knowledge of the Mediterranean territories, lifestyles, nutrition and their relations with the cardiovascular prevention ; 2) The realization of European village sustainable, with the Mediterranean biodiversity; 3) developing new knowledge system capable of having a favorable impact on sustainable tourism; 3) to formulate guidelines for the dissemination of new knowledge.
Recalls: inviting organizations – from at least three European countries that share the preliminary planning – to express an declaration of interest to join the first recall of the Interreg program mediterranean expiring on 11/02/2015.

    Dear Sirs:
We would like to indicate our interest to study the possibility of becoming a Portuguese partner of your consortium.
Established 1984, the “Departamento do Património Histórico e Artístico da Diocese de Beja” [DPHA] (Department of Historical and Artistic heritage, Catholic Diocesis of Beja) is a pioneer ONG, operating with national, regional and local authorities, in safeguarding the religious heritage. In particular, it is in charge of the cultural heritage of the Beja region, in the South of Portugal, between the Atlantic ocean and the Spanish border. The Diocese of Beja keeps over 200.000 inventoried works of art in churches, monasteries, convents and museums and over 500 buildings.
Among the many areas of work of his team, 12 professional and 214 volunteers, are: inventory of religious cultural goods; ensuring equity for communities and social inclusion; creation of a core of technical advice; churches restoration and re-opening; support for cultural itineraries.
The experience of Beja is particularly relevant in inventories, conservation, publications and development of local communities. The DPHA chose to enlarge its range of activities on heritage and biodiversity in order to involve a wider public. In addition, organizes since 2003 the Festival Terras sem Sombra (FTSS), which aims to become accessible the monuments of Alentejo. This is due to a partnership between the DPHA as well the “dynamic forces” of Alentejo.
The FTSS has an itinerant character and focuses its action on the developing of new audiences and the connection to local communities. Its high international level of the programme is composed by, beyond concerts, master classes, conferences, guides tours and some pedagogic artistic actions. The dialog between the past and the contemporary creation, as well as the opening to young composers and interpreters, the order for works, the intersections among the arts, the rescue of the musicological heritage, are, together, structural elements of the project.
This is the background in which the FTSS shows the relevance of the environmental and cultural value of this territory, presenting one of the best index of preservation in Europe. Each concert is accompanied by a volunteering pilot-action in order to save its biodiversity. The principles of inclusion and sustainability are an integral part of the rules of the FTSS. The concerts and other activities provide open access within the constraints imposed by the preservation of the monuments and the place visited as well.
The “Festival Terras sem Sombra” desires to persuade the whole community to join efforts to obtain a well-balanced and sustained development for Southern Europe.
The International Prize “Terras sem Sombra”, created by the Festival in 2011, is awarded annually to three personalities or institutions that stood out, globally, in the areas of music, cultural heritage and biodiversity preservation.
