Innovations for Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans development & implementation in Mediterranean cities

Promotion through the innovative SUMPs in each partner local authority, involving mainly small and medium size cities and towns, appropriate policies and effective measures that involve the use of and investments in sustainable mobility solutions.

The proposal relates to the take up of Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs) with innovations and enhancements in the established SUMP methodology. Consultation, monitoring and evaluation procedures play a very important role in the SUMP methodology enhancements, as well as travel behaviour, funding instruments, mobility provisions for social groups and improved governance.
Important shortfalls and problems in key transport and mobility areas in local authorities and transport stakeholders have been identified and revealed.

The approach and methodology of the proposed project is based on exploiting and building on the outputs and results of previous research projects, interregional and transnational cooperation projects, synergies with current projects and other relevant initiatives (such as the CIVITAS initiative, EPOMM, JESSICA Initiative, etc). Furthermore the proposed project will capitalise, apply, exploit, make use of and contribute to policy formulation and delivery, from completed and current EU wide projects (FP7, IEE2, INTERREG IVC), as well as guidance from UITP, POLIS and CIVITAS.
