Following up the achieving of a LIFE+ project we would like to deepen the knowledge about the supporting role of rice farming for certain N2000 sites. Rice fields occur mostly in connection with SCI and SPA and have hystorically provided a substitution wetland habitat for many species of birds, reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates.
Our aim is to deepen at the MED scale the knowledge about the role of rice farming in supporting the biodiversity, taking into account the different environemntal and socioeconomic contexts in which they have flourished in Europe.
Our project idea would be to implement M1 and M2 modules: identifying a set of locally fit (i.e. discussed with farmers and policy makers) good practices for rice farming and testing them in order to estabilish a set of measures that could be funded by FEASR/RDPs.
We would be interested in hearing from any Farmers’ Association, Protected Areas’ Management Body, local or regional policy maker in order to design such a cooperation project.
