In spite of the natural beauty and rich culture and heritage of the Mediterranean, we have stagnant economies with high unemployment, coupled with environmental degradation. The challenge is to reverse the economic decline by stimulating and sustaining economic development by making ethical use of the natural and cultural heritage with tourism. This project will harness the potential of tourist routes and heritage trails as an innovative to reverse the process of decline. Regions will enhance the spatial plans to better manage these routes and trails, coupled with guidelines to assist planners to evaluate applications for tourist development. Outputs would include more comprehensive spatial plans that better integrate the tourist sector for blue and green growth, but also assist spatial planners to improve their ability to carryout development control. The common problems in the MED are best dealt with across borders with common solutions…

    Dear Pyrrhus

    good afternoon.

I work in the Water/Hydraulic section of the Department of
Environment, Land and Infrastructure Engineering of
    Politecnico di Torino (Turin, Italy).

We are a university, so a public body; we can perform
research activity on a lot of issues, giving an added value to
the project (a scientific value), but for these Interreg
projects it is not advisable for us to be the coordinator.

Anyway, we would be very happy in working in the MED framework. I see that you would like to work in culture and tourism, economic development, etc. Therefore, a quite specific field which we are dealing with and that may be useful for you is energy production by water wheels, those located in ancient water mills. They are a way for producing energy, but simultaneously they can promote the eco-tourism and the valorization of the cultural heritage.

If you are interested, please don’esitate to contact me,
in order to understand if a partnership is possible (it
depends mainly on our expected work, topic of the project,
etc.). We are “open” to any idea, but, obviously, before making a partnership we will evaluate in detail our interest and expertise on the topic of the proposal.

Please, contact me by e-mail if you are interested. emanuele.quaranta@polito.it

    Thank you
    Best regards

    Dear Phyrrus,

We consider that your project idea could be interesting for us. We would be grateful if you will send us some more information about it and the possibility of taking part on it.

We are the “Diputación de Granada” (County Council of Granada) that is the Local Government of the Province of Granada (Andalusia, Spain). Our institution represents 171 municipalities. This is a Local Public Administration with its own competencies and competencies delegated by the Autonomous Region.

Many of our municipalities have less of 5.000 inhabitants so the biggest part of our province has a rural character. Our territory has an important geographical diversity: from the highest mountain of the Iberian Peninsula with an important sky resort to a subtropical coast. We have many cultural heritage resources and a very high surface with legal protection linked to its environmental value. It makes rural tourism one of the main keys for our socioeconomic development.

I write you from the Delegation of Employment and Sustainable Development of the “Diputación de Granada”. The main points of our work program are: 1)European Programs for economic promotion; 2) Self-employment and company consolidation; 3) Training for Employment. 4) Promotion of Rural Development 5) Support programme for the modernisation and quality of local public services 6) Social Responsibility Programme

We have great experience in the implementation of projects funded by European programmes
We could maybe highlight the following projects because of their special connection with yours:
-CesR: Support local rural entities to promote job mutualism in services sector linked to tourism and social services (INTERREG IV C)
-TOURAGE: Promote senior tourism as a tool to promote employment and development of rural areas (INTERREG IV C)
-CULTURMED: Promote natural, cultural, historical and landscape heritage of Alpujarra area to support the declaration of this territory as part of World Heritage (POCTEFEX, Spain – Morocco)
-ETNOMED: Increase the potential of common ethnographic heritage in the province of Granada and Northern Morocco (POCTEFEX, Spain – Morocco)

Your project idea is very interesting for the Municipality of Nova Gorica. We would appreciate if you could send us some more information.
The Municipality of Nova Gorica is situated in the western part of Slovenia, adjacent to the border with Italy. With its 32000 inhabitants it is one of the largest municipalities in Slovenia and the largest municipality and the administrative centre of the region of Goriška.
The Administration of the Municipality of Nova Gorica is divided into 5 departments, covering different areas of work. Tourism is treated in the Department for economy. The Municipality of Nova Gorica devotes to tourism significant financial resources.
Being a young city (constructed after the 2nd world war) our identity and tourism are still to be developed but we have a great potential: strategic position (proximity of the border, sea, mountains, airports, Venice…), cultural heritage (1st and 2nd world war), beautiful nature… You can find more information on our Municipality and its tourism here http://www.novagorica-turizem.com/eng/.
The city of Nova Gorica is surrounded by two very different, but both still picturesque rural areas: The Valley of Vipava and Trnovsko Banjška plateau. The Valley of Vipava is a rural area with the strong tradition of fruit and vine production, enology as well as local gastronomy. Recently the area has developed also as a tourist destination. On the other hand the Trnovsko Banjška plateau is a green oasis with fresh air and large woods dedicated to hiking, cycling, paragliding and enjoying the nature.

Just like other similar destinations, we are lacking a joint promotion stategy and an economic evaluation of tourist resources. For this reason we find your project idea very interesting and would be glad if you accept our Municipality as a partner.
In case we become a part of your consortium we guarantee a good professional support as all projects and investments are lead by competent and credible employees.

In case of any further questions please do not hesitate to ask. We look forward to hearing from you.

    Dear Sir,

Novi Grad Municipality (Bosna and Herzegovina) is municipality that carefully plans its development and the development of tourism is one of our main strategic goals. Otherwise, we have a lot of local attractions, like our typical boat of Una River (length of 6 meters, has two chambers -ie, can not sink). We have 180 registered boats, and we respect it like one of symbols of our local community. At the other side, we also have a National Monument at our territory: An old City Hall, which is completely restored through the project “ Preservation of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Cultural Heritage”, which is cofinanced by European funds- IPA National Programme 2010. The City Hall in Novi Grad is one of the most important and valuable historic buildings of the entire Bosna and Herzegovina. It was erected in 1892 on the bank of the Una by the bridge that now constitutes the border crossing between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Croatia. It was built of cut stone in the neo-Moorish style.

According to that, we are very interested in your project idea. We have a long experience in different projects in touristic, agricultural, environmental, local development and the other fields.

If you choose us as a partner for the project, you will have a responsible and professional partner with whom you can achieve the common goals of sustainable economic development.

According to above mentioned, we invite you to consider the possibility of cooperation with Novi Grad Municipality. In the case of interest, we kindly ask you to contact us in order to undertake the further steps related to our future and hopefully successful cooperation.

Please find enclosed more information about our Municipality.

    Parco Minerario dell’Isola d’Elba

    Dear

The Parco Minerario of Elba Isle in Rio Marina, is a public owned company, whose mission is the environment re-qualification, valorization and promotion of the Eastern Elba mining sites no longer in use. Elba Isle is one of the main tourist location at international level and the Parco Minerario, the most famous Italian mining site, attracts thousands of tourists every years. Its museum, opened in 2001 in part with ERDF funds, is located inside the old mining Direction building. Starting from the museum, it’s possible to visit all the main mining areas by trekking, bicycle and train. Parco Minerario is used to offer visitors and tourists open-air activities with the support of environmental tour guides for spreading the knowledge of the natural, geological and mineral peculiarities of this area. Moreover, an open air theatre, realized in an old mine basin, hosts more than 700 people. The Parco Minerario intends to convert in tourist attraction those areas exploited for the iron excavation, since the Etruscan period, offering us samples of mineral of extraordinary beauty and interest from the scientific point of view, that today we can admire in the most prestigious museums all over the world.
In this context, the Parco Minerario of Elba Isle, is interested in putting itself at disposal of other partners in order to exchange experiences and ideas, aiming at planning and testing models of re-qualification and communication of the Mediterranean cultural heritage.

Parco Minerario is interested in being partner in future Med projects aiming at exchange experiences as example of reconversion process to be implemented at European level.

Please let us know in case you’re interested in involving us in your project idea.
