Invasive alien species (IAS) have major impacts on the ecosystems in which they are based and also generate serious prejudice to human activities. Among the most important IAS include waterfowl.
The most important economic activity in the border area of Donana National Park (South of Spain) is agriculture. In the last decade, much of the irrigation system covering almost 15,000 hectares has been affected by the proliferation of invasive bryozoan (Plumatella sp.) And that is causing great economic losses.
According to recent studies, the statoblasts of these bryozoans spread by wading birds who they are in Doñana National Park.
Our goal is to study the interaction established between natural aquatic ecosystems Doñana National Park and irrigation systems (irrigation ponds) located around this park in order to minimize the impact of this phenomenon and contribute to its rapid detection and control with the possibility of being transferred other climatic zones like Andalusia as is the Mediterranean basin.

We invite any organization that is interested in related to natural parks and aquatic invasive species studies.

I represent a Protected Area in the North East Italy (Isonzo Rivermouth Nature Reserve) that is also part of Adriawet, a “Network of managers and stakeholders of the marine and coastal protected areas of the Adriatic Sea”. We have just closed AdriaWet 2000 (www.adriawet2000.eu ), a project financed by the Italy Slovenia CBC programme, that we are further developing in order to submit a follow up to the current MED call (SO 3.2). We have already drafted a project concept about integrated management of coastal and marine protected areas and we are looking for a management body of Coastal/Marine Protected Area or a Local Authority in charge of biodiversity/ecosystems services conservation in Spain.

As for your project proposal, we are very interested since we are drafting a Life project on invasive species that we are gonna submit to the next call. Of course, we have a technical body within our organization that could work on alien freshwater species.

If you are interested, please send a mail to massimiliano.pinat@gmail.com

We are the Bussaco Forest Foundation, we’ve an ongoing LIFE+ project dealing with terrestrian invasive flora and we would be interested in joining your efforts. Despite we do not have the problem of aquatic invaders, we are on the way to deal with other terrestrial invasive species with which the referred project was not working yet.
If you would like to have this case for partner, please let us know.

    Dear Genista,

First of all, thank you for your confidence in us and our idea. Due to we do not have closed a consortium at time and we do not have sufficient time to prepare the proposal, we have decided to submit the proposal for future call.
    Looking for a future collaboration.
