    City of Kastela

    Town Kastela is place with rich history and great number of protected cultural objects(castles, houses, urban regions). The town consists of 7 settlements, every settlement is based around historical city centre lying on the coast of the sea of Kastelas bay. In the lenght of 15 km exchange and interwine beaches and historical urban sites, parks and sidewalks. Unfortunately many of these sites are in bad shape as a result of weather and clime impacts (sea floods), illegal upbringing, lack of maintenance and no management plan. As a result we have many unique and picturesque ruins alog the seaside near the beaches and parks. These sites should be renovated and revitalized so that further devastation is prevented and cultural heritage is protected for the next generation. Since Kastela have rich cultural program (summer school of music, vocal groups, acting and dance groups) their activities should be used to enrich the revitalisation and presentation of heritage diversity.

    Project activities: create the database of castles, palaces and houses according to their legal owners, sate of devastation and level of existing documentation, prepare local public strategy for renovation, create management plan for protected objects in local property, prepare guidelines to avoid further devastation, rise awareness of local citizens toward the local history and its impact to every day life.
    Pilot project – on the location of Kastel Luksić, develop new tourist product “Cultural beaach” in accordance with local legend of unfortunale lovers who lived in castles near the beach.

    Research and Educational Centre Mansion Rakičan is a referential historical object for reconstruction, and can set a good example for how to connect the old with the new. We are very much involved in the revival of cultural heritage and we try to bring tourism to our region on the basis of cultural heritage. The mansion is located near a park that measures 10 hectares where a small chapel is also a part of the property. The park is a protected monument with a lot of trees that are very old and are also protected. We are interested in environmental protection, raising general awareness about the importance of environmentally friendly activities, conservation of the natural and cultural region as well as the maintenance and conservation of the cultural heritage.
    Due to bad weather conditions a lot of trees in the park were demolished and no new trees have grown since. The institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Slovenia has also expressed their concern about the up keeping of our park; therefore we have prepared a plan for restoration and maintenance of the park.
    We aim to develop sustainable policies for more efficient preservation of natural resources and cultural heritage. Therefore, we want to implement tourism as one of the main objectives in giving new and modern life to cultural heritage. We want to create a tourist destination that will be based on cultural and natural heritage. We want to bring back the old way of life in the mansion that would be interesting for our guests. At the same time we are also focused on organic farming and we try to involve local farmers in our activities.
    We realize that we are not situated in the maritime and costal area, but nevertheless we have a lot of advantages, especially because of the mansion and of the location inside the park. We try to develop economic activities and most of all tourism that is based on environmental changes and on natural and cultural heritage.

    Dear Sir or Madam

    I’m writing on behalf of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, Department for Culture, Sport and Technical culture. We are regional government, situated in Rijeka, Croatia. PGK County endeavours to preserve its historic and cultural heritage. We consider the renovation of the cultural monuments in the County of the great importance because of their notable quality, number and variety, as well as for their connection with the European and Mediterranean tradition. The Register of Immovable Cultural Monuments of the Republic of Croatia lists as many as 520 cultural monuments ranging from palaces and castles to ethnographic and historic monuments located in the County.

    Currently, we are working on a very similar topic, therefore we might join efforts on a common goal. Our running project “Putovima Frankopana” deals with valorisation and revitalization of Frankopan castles, with the purpose to enrich the cultural and tourist offer of the closer and wider area.

    If you are searching more partners from Croatia, we are very interested in joining your proposal.

    We have the experience in creating and implementing different projects in the domain of cultural and historical heritage:
    HERA – Sustainable tourism management of Adriatic Heritage. Financed from IPA Adriatic CBC;
    CLAUSTRA – Stone frontiers of roman Empire, sustainable management of natural resources. Financed from IPA SLovenija – Hrvatska.

    In the case that you think we are fitting in the partnership, please let us know in order to have more information and contribute to the proposal preparation.

    Looking forward to hearing from you.

    Best regards,
