Sines Tecnopolo – BIC AlentejoLooking for regional (NUTS II) partners for Integrated project(M1+M2+M3) to Study, Test and Capitalize best practices and action plans for Sustainable Nautical Tourism Development.

Maritime Tourism is a growing touristic trend in Europe, adding value and renewing the touristic offer of a region. In Maritime Tourism we find two main types of activities: Recreational nautical activities, such as surfing, wind-surfing, sailing and jet skiing, and Nautical sports, like ship races, fishing and diving competitions, among other events. Although recreational nautical activities bring you a steady activity through-out the year, the nautical sports events, mainly large ones, bring to a region a bigger amount of visitors, although for a smaller period of time, being a huge promotion and speaker opportunity for the region and it’s Maritime and overall Touristic offer.
This types of events, specially the larger and more credited one’s, apart from the speaker opportunities and bringing a bigger amount of visitors during their duration, also have a set of requirements that any region that wants to receive them must meet. This requirements are in place so potential hosts meet the quality standards of the event itself and, mainly, are about nautical activities, entertainment and touristic facilities such as restaurants and bedding. Meeting this requirements means that this region has a touristic offer, namely maritime, that meets the quality standards of the event or events it intends to host, meaning that meeting this requirements makes a region a better touristic destination and can build up its identity as a quality maritime and nautical touristic site. This can help develop all touristic regional activity and, more specifically, the recreational nautical activity facilities, companies and services that can, therefor, bring you more visitors throughout the year, battling the seasonal tendency of other touristic offers.
Maritime Tourism is a strategic european area for its ability to help develop Europe’s touristic offer, being a cross-cluster field with the potential to develop several economic fields. This is an important area for our region and, we believe, for other costal touristic destinations in Europe.
What we propose is an INTERREG MED integrated modular project (M1+M2+M3; Studying, Testing and Capitalization) that studies the hosting and requirements of big Nautical Sports Events and their impact in maritime and overall tourism demand, as well as in regional economic development, taking in to account how meeting these requirements and turning them into good practices to help develop the maritime and nautical touristic offer, in the Mediterranean Coast. After building a good practices guide, in the testing phase, we shall apply the guidelines to a number of territories, preferably with different stages of development in terms of nautical tourism and different degrees of interaction with big nautical sports events, in order to test the guidelines in a practical environment and in different scenarios, pinpointing common success variables. Having and analyzing the results of the previous phases, we can move forward to the Capitalization phase, where we will build action plans for the territories, applying the gathered knowledge and putting it into service of the territories, allowing a practical use for the work previously done, evaluating and improving it, in order to boost economic development through this sector.13 February 2017 at 17 h 31 min #37546
