We are developing research at ICAAM, from University of Evora, one resaerch center devoted to agricultural research. We are looking for partners that can be interested in a project devoted to simprove agricultural economy through a high consumption and valorization of local agrifood products. Agriculture deserves considerable attention in mediterranean area, but agifood products presentes sometimes low competitiveness.
At this project we are focused in three main points:
    1. to study detrminants of mediterranean agrifod products (among the several factors that may influence acceptance and choice of foods, which are the ones more important for the consumption of foodds with the characteristics of fods from mediterranean diets: sensoria? psychological; economic?) Only by knowning such factors, using a multidisciplinary approach, we can direct products and change habits
    2. to explore new marketing strategies for local products, from local producers.
    3. to promote new mediterranean based gastronomy turism. Simmilarly to several rstaurants distributed worldwile, where different approaches, linked to different experiences, can be tested with mediterranean local food products.

    Dear Elsa,
We write you in behalf of UNCEM Piemonte, a public association representing 553 mountain Municipalities, 22 Mountain Communities and 5 Provinces of the whole Piedmont Region, covering the 46% of the regional territory.

UNCEM Piemonte has a great experience in European Project management, thanks to participation to many Alpine Space and Central Europe projects in the past programming period. Most of the project to which the association participated were dedicated to the search of opportunities of sustainable development for rural and mountain areas.
Furthermore some months ago, we introduced the Alpine online Shop “Bottega dell’Alpe”, that is a way to valorize local products introducing them in a bigger market through the online shopping (http://www.bottegadellalpe.it/default.aspx).
The capacity of UNCEM is considerable also taking into account the important needs of small municipalities in a large area: for this reason, I invite you to contact us as potential partner for the project you are writing,

    Best regards

    Dear colleagues,

The Local Action Group Južna Istra ( http://www.lag-juznaistra.hr/) is a NGO situated in Istria-Croatia and was created as a result of EU initiatives aiming the development of local strategies and supporting stakeholder networking&partnership (composed from civil, public and private sectors in equal parts). The LAG South Istria network includes 10 local governments and can represent and include them in the project.

The LAG South Istria has already organized a series of initiatives, events and educations with the aim of ensuring the flow of information and knowledge transfer for progress in the sustainable development of the rural economy and local communities, to develop synergies and networking between all entities who are interested in contributing to the development of rural areas reaching cohesion and the standards of the EU.

Even if the territory is strongly touristic developed, there is a need to strengthen peripheral locations that have a rich cultural history but do not record so many visits, as well even though they have access to the sea does not use its coastline for tourism purposes.

In all locations is strongly present the heritage from Rome,Venice and Austro Hungarian Empire. In the territory are presents more fortresses, shipwrecks, medieval churches and castles and one of the biggest collection of religious art and relics; it registers a strong history of production of olive oil, a multitude of endemic species and good location for birth watching. Despite all that, there is a need for valorization of heritage of the territory because tourists mostly visits “In” destinations since missing a tool that would easily present the richness of our rural territory.

We are also developing a project of Agriculture and tourism-innovative model for the development of rural Istria and sustainable management of natural resources with our farmers. The project aims to contribute to the development of ecological livestock through the sustainable use of natural resources and put this activity to a higher level by enrich rural areas and give new life to the uncultivated Land owned by the State, Municipalities and also Private. This project would be through a co-operative, as a social network, contributing to regional development in practice through 8 integrated and multifunctional production and tourism working units.

If you choose us as a partner for the project, you will have a responsible and professional partner with whom you can achieve the common goals of sustainable economic development.

According to above mentioned, we invite you to consider the possibility of cooperation with us. In the case of interest, we kindly ask you to contact us in order to undertake the further steps related to our future and hopefully successful cooperation.
Please contact us via mail: lag.juzna.istra@gmail.com
Looking forward to hearing from you soon,

    Dear Elsa,

I work for Aragon Company of Agri-environmental Management S.L.U (SARGA) is a public company belonging to the Government of Aragon that implements a wide range of agrienvironmental projects and services addressed to improve the rural affairs and the environment in Aragon region. (Northeastern of Spain). More information: http://www.sarga.es/doc/sarga_english.pdf We are responsible for the practical implementation of agri-environmental policies in sustainable development field promoting smart, inclusive and sustainable entrepreneurship, and therefore we are involved in designing and delivering these innovative policies, hence our capacity to implement improved techniques. Counselling Office for Irrigators, courses and training with regards to the use of water in irrigated lands, processing of the SIGPAC (geographical information system for agricultural parcels), inspection unit in the SASAC (agricultural area subject to Community support), maintenance and management of public farms and estates of agricultural use, and agro-food promotion of high quality products by means of the participation in fairs/exhibitions and marketing/communication campaigns.

In recent years, SARGA has acquired great experience in innovation and Smart cities in rural areas because we are in charge of the management of the Sustainable Development Programme, with a total amount of investment is approximately EUR 50 million. As you saw in our presentation we work in the field of regional challenges in depopulation areas (we have many areas with less than 2hab/km2) and declining industries in rural zones. Zaragoza is the capital city of Aragon and gathers 51% of the region population (800.000 inhabitants approx.). The remaining 49% of Aragon population is scattered in more than 700 villages, being most of them of less than 500 inhabitants.
We have experience in the development of Self-Entrepreneurship and to support the capacity of SMEs to engage in growth in innovation processes at regional and national level, but also at EU level because we worked in two Progress Projects:
    1. NEW SKILLS FOR GREEN JOBS. A case for a more gender inclusive labour market? The development of the “green economy” constitutes a highly significant trend in Europe. Green industries (rural Tourism) account for a growing proportion of GDP and employment growth. At a time of economic recession, they frequently represent beacons of light in an otherwise dark landscape. But they also present challenges. Significant and rapid increases in demand for “green skills” are placing major pressures on education and training systems, and raise questions about how we can ensure a fair distribution of the benefits in society. Many of the main growth sectors and occupations have traditionally been under-representative of women.
    2. GOODWORX3 The aim of GoodWorx³ Project is to contribute to social innovation, social inclusion and labour market integration, by identifying and promoting good practice models of cooperation between public authorities, private companies and social enterprises, as well as social impact assessment methods.

Also, SARGA has long and successful experiences of European Union funding projects in fields such as environment, empower entrepreneurship in rural areas, open data, sustainable rural development Projects, regional smart strategy, energy efficiency, capacity building, women entrepreneur, biomass, Clean Energies, R+D+I Projects, business transfer to new generations of entrepreneurs…
Also we are running several UE Projects in environment, innovation and smart energy efficiency field:
    • HOMER Project (MED Program) http://homerproject.eu/project HOMER is the strategic MED project that focuses on the theme of Open Data, a world-wide policy aiming at making available and exploitable Public Sector Information (PSI). Governments are increasingly recognising the benefits of making their data open and reusable. The first is transparency: simply opening PSI, citizens can be better informed and participate in the decision making process. The second is linked to the economic value of PSI, whose wider re-use is considered a primary content resource for the development of digital markets
    • MED MAIN Project (MED Program) http://www.med-main.eu/ It is aimed at disseminating countermeasures to the Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect, that is the strong rise of temperatures that occurs in the urban areas with respect to the surrounding countryside due to absorption of solar radiation by the building and pavement surfaces. Very effective countermeasures to the UHI effect are given by cool roofs and cool pavements, that is the wide range of technological solutions that are characterized by high and certified capacity to reflect solar radiation.
    • STEP Project. (Interreg IVC) Improving Communities’ Sustainable Energy Policy Tools. The project foster local level policies supporting energy efficiency and energy self-sufficiency derived from national/regional policies. http://www.steproject.eu
    • LIFE+ POWER Project. Demonstration and quantifying of the potential energy savings derived from both, the efficient water management and the generation of models to scale through renewable energy-based devices applied to water pumping systems and the subsequent quantifying of the reduction of emissions to the atmosphere are sought. http://www.lifepowerproject.eu/
    • We have a Department for Biomass promotion, thanks to our participation in Woode3 Project (Interreg MED Program http://www.woode3.eu ) and developing Environmental Management Plan for SMEs.

Also as references as reliable partners:
    1. We received two awards from the European Commission as best of the best in the management of 2 Life+ projects.
    a. ESWAMAR Project, (SARGA was the Project Coordinator) http://www.life-eswamar.eu/Comun/Upload/VerAdjuntoContenidos.aspx?IdAdjunto=4066
    b. POWER Project, (SARGA is partner). Last 24 April 2015 http://ec.europa.eu/environment/life/news/newsarchive2015/april/index.htm#best
    2. Aragon has received an award for best open data portal, developed in collaboration with the HOMER Project (MED Programme) and the 19 project partners have chosen Aragon as the most active project partner. http://homerproject.eu/

For all the above, we would like you to consider our candidacy to participate in your project and contact me in order to have more information and contributing to the proposal writing.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

    Dear Elsa,
I write you from the Granada County Council (SPAIN), in particular, from the provincial development delegation of the Granada County Council. This Delegation was founded at the end of 1993 to promote local development of our municipalities and the Province as a whole.

With regards of your project proposal, the Granada County Council has several products of differentiated quality (designations of origin and protected geographical indications) on which the Granada County Council supports the Provincial Agrofood Strategy. In this context we should emphasized the Initiatives “Granada Tastes – Granada Sabor” and “Sabor Granada – Tastes of Granada”.
Granada Sabor – Granada Tastes (funding by ERDF). The Granada County Council in the framework of the Provincial label strategy “Sabor Granada” is promoted over an official quality recognition nine productive sectors of the province, such as the Wines of Granada, the Serrano ham of Trévelez, the Bread of Alfacar, Honey of Granada, Huetor Tájar Asparagus, Cherimoya of Costa Tropical, the Lamb Segureño and The Montes and Western Oils, as well as, many other products representative of our province with recognized quality.

From the Provincial de Granada, we want to promote the quality of primary production, their production processes, their training needs, dissemination, and we encourage the marketing of their products.
    http://www.sabor-granada.es/

Sabor Granada – Tastes of Granada (funding ERDF) is a multistore platform of food products from Granada. This platform is addressed to provide to the Agrofood companies of the province the best and simplest tools that currently exist to take advantage of the web market. http://www.granadasabores.com

Likewise, in our province there are some examples promoted by other institutions as the Association for the rural development of the Western of Granada Province. This Association has developed a rural quality label “Poniente Granadino. La última forntera del Al – Andalus”.
This “territorial label” encourages the common promotion as part inseparable of the territorial identity between the markets productions of this area (asparagus, olive oil, lamb, cold meat, etc.), the territory (natural, cultural and historical heritage), and services (agricultural, handicraft production, tourism services). With regards, “Poniente Granadino. Última Frontera del Al – Andalus”, was recognised in 2007 in the Office for harmonization in the internal market over the label “Rural quality”.
    More information: http://www.ponientegranadino.org/pdf/reglamento_general_de_la_marca_de_calidad_territorial.pdf

In addition the County Council of Granada is the intermediary institution between our provincial clusters.
During the last years in the Granada Province several clusters have been set up. These clusters are:

    1) Western agri-food Centre for Innovation and Technology located in Huétor Tajar (Granada). This Centre was setting up as a regional agri- food cluster with the participation of the Granada County Council, small and medium enterprises and research and public entities of the province of Granada.

The main objectives of this Cluster are:
    – Develop R+D+I programs in the agri – food sector in the “Western of Granada”, according to the demands and needs of the agricultural market.
    – Reach new and foreign markets through cooperation agreements with other research institutions and entities of the sector. Internationalization.
    – Boost collaborative projects that would not be affordable for an SME alone.
    – Promotion of quality territorial rural Western Granada (Poniente Granadino) products and other quality labels (PDO, PGI, etc).
    – Increase competitiveness trough innovation and technical development, and negotiation power with big distribution.
    – Promote local development. Pursuing employment creation and agri – food development and performance always under the scope of quality and environmental respect.
    – Ensure socio-economic development of the region without compromising their natural resources, diversifying agricultural production through alternative crops

    2) Cluster agrifood segureño lamb in the town of Huéscar in the north of the province.

The Cluster is the centre of reference to the Segureño lamb (covered by an IGP) and all the SMEs involved in the production of pork, canned fruits and vegetables, olive oil. Other typical bakery products are also be integrated.

    This cluster is addressed to:
    Improve the competitive of SMEs.
    Open new markets.
Make the most efficiency the raw materials.
    Technological innovation and innovation
    Develop common and cooperation projects.
    Develop the local economy.
    Support new business ideas.

In addition the Granada County Council is developed two

The above experiences are just some of the several examples that the Provincial Council of Granada has developed. We expect that our profile has interest for your project. We attached to you more information about us in this email. Don’t hesitate to contact us for further information. In addition we have a large experience in the management of European projects.

We will be grateful if you could take into consideration our participation on the project!
