Lastovo is an island municipality and is a part of the Dubrovnik-Neretva County in the Croatia. The municipality consists of 46 islands with a total population of 792 people and a land area of approximately 53 square kilometers. The largest island of the municipality is also called Lastovo as well as its largest town.
The characteristics of the island are its 15th- and 16th-century architecture with the large number of small churches and chapels for the island that is relatively small and especially the domestic houses with the characteristically chimneys that the prominent citizens built and even competed who will have the most monumental one. The island relies on its level of natural preservation and beauties to attract tourists. The coast is very suitable for nautical tourism and diving, and the sea has a large number and variety of fish as well as many coral formations.
Lastovo is also suitable for the hiking since the hinterland of the island were partially forbidden zone during the decades long military presence so the level of the construction was stemmed because of it. In general, the island is very suitable for the development of adventure tourism. In 2006 the government of Croatia made the island and its archipelago a nature park which made it the youngest park of this type in the country.Because of islands remote position and historical circumstances such as the existence of the large military bases during the existence of Yugoslavia Lastovo and its archipelago are currently very well preserved. Currently the municipality is contemplating the promotion of probably the most typical cultural legacy – Lastovo Poklad (Carnival), half a millennia old tradition that is by its distinctive content unique in the whole region. The level of the promotion and appropriate infrastructure of this traditional event are unsatisfactory and we are aiming to increase it.
The other points of interest are the care for two locations of the complex archaeological type, the villa from the Roman times and an early medieval church.
Non-material cultural heritage as well as an abandoned military base that could be adapted and used as a part of what the islands could offer. Since the town of Ubli on Lastovo was built during the rule of Mussolini’s Italy with the town planning principles of that period we are currently preparing to initiate the cooperation with Architecture of Totalitarian Regimes in Urban Managements – ATRIUM project.
We would like to avoid the boom of uncontrolled mass tourism that is sweeping some other parts of Croatia by shielding it with the institutional mechanisms and the appropriate infrastructure for a development of the responsible and sustainable tourism for which Lastovo has a lot of potential already.
Our primary focus is presenting the island of Lastovo through responsible tourism usage which would also include the preserving the natural and cultural heritage of the area.Currently the primary focus would be the promotion and branding of the Lastovo Carnival but our primary goals could be flexible to better fit all of our partners needs.
We are interested in being partners for the projects that have a further axis:
PRIORITY AXIS 3: PROTECTING AND PROMOTING MEDITERRANEAN NATURAL AND CULTURAL RESOURCES, OBJECTIVE 3.1: To enhance the development of a sustainable and responsible coastal and maritime tourism in the MED area
PRIORITY AXIS 2: LOW CARBON, more specifically in OBJECTIVE 2.1: To raise capacity for better management of energy in public buildings at transnational level.
We would like to prepare for multi-modular project (1+2+3) where we could include all of the steps from the start for a period of several years.
We warmly welcome any suitable partnership offers, advice and suggestions. The project development firm Heritage Go Pro will act under us as our representative so we leave their contact e-mail:
24 August 2015 at 0 h 47 min #2720The current idea is taking its shape in this period so we are changing the course for a bit, so we will publish the new topic in the “ Efficient buildings ” since it is probably more in line with that section.
The main themes of the new project idea are:– renovation of buildings of historic and cultural significance which could be utilized for various displays and events within the subject of heritage (museums, galleries etc.)
-building the power grid for the restored buildings based on the alternative power sources
– creating the incubator for various institutions, associations and companies to utilize town center
– fostering innovative services promoting the heritage of the town
– creating the educational walk trails inside the town center
– utilization of recyclable materials during the whole project
-creating a collaborative international network for the promotion of cultural heritage hubs
-protection of the natural and cultural landscape of the town
– reduction of seasonality4 September 2015 at 10 h 53 min #3372

mariaHi.
The city of Tivoli, 27 km west of Rome, has two important UNESCO World Heritage Site (Villa d’Este and Villa Adriana), ancient urban archaeological sites, as the Temple of Vesta and the Temple of the Sibyl, the Temple of the Tosse, the Sanctuary of Hercules and the Bleso Amphitheatre, built in the time of Hadrian, and industrial archaeological remains from the papermaking world in the medieval part of the city, close to Roman archaeology area. We are working on a regeneration project and we are strongly interested in your idea.

aurelioUNESCO Sicilia Foundation is a Regional Agency recently founded by Italian State (50%)
and Sicilian Region (50%) and involved in cultural heritage and environmental protection
and promotion policies concerning the seven Sicilian UNESCO protected areas and serial
sites.
Due to its two Foundation partners UNESCO Sicilia can effectively and directly influence
National and Regional policies.
UNESCO Sicilia is interested in learning the best practices and management methodology
used for applying UNESCO guidelines in dealing with management in general inside
the UNESCO sites.
Besides, UNESCO SICILIA is very keen to study the available best practices in the field of
private investment attraction and PPPs promotion for environment and cultural heritage
conservation and sustainable exploitation. All the above as from the regulatory as well as
from the practical point of view. Our main issue is, after fostering the exchange of
experiences, the preparation of mandatory action plans for integrating and deploying good
practices within regional policies and first of all within programs. We are also interested in
experimenting some “peer review practice”, in terms of teams of experts to be engaged to
visit our 7 UNESCO sites to review our governance strategy and methods. As project Heritage Go Pro aims to implement PRIORITY AXIS 3: PROTECTING AND PROMOTING MEDITERRANEAN NATURAL AND CULTURAL RESOURCES, OBJECTIVE 3.1: To enhance the development of a sustainable and responsible coastal and maritime tourism in the MED area, herewith we express our interest to take part to the above said project.
