Coastal protected area integrated management

I represent a Protected Area in the North East Italy (Isonzo Rivermouth Nature Reserve) that is also part of Adriawet, a “Network of managers and stakeholders of the marine and coastal protected areas of the Adriatic Sea”. We have just closed AdriaWet 2000 (www.adriawet2000.eu ), a project financed by the Italy Slovenia CBC programme, that we are further developing in order to submit a follow up to the current MED call (SO 3.2). We have already drafted a project concept about integrated management of coastal and marine protected areas and we are looking for a management body of Coastal/Marine Protected Area or a Local Authority in charge of biodiversity/ecosystems services conservation in France / Spain / Portugal / Croatia / Montenegro / Albania / Greece / Cyprus. on behalf of the Municipality of Pachino (Siracusa) we could be interested in your proposal, if you’re looking for Italian local authorities too.

Sustainable tourism is a vital resource for the Pachino’s territory, also because of the high value the landscape, both coastal and inland, have for our area. We have Protected areas and therefore bioversity is an important issue for the natural heritage preservation.

PGI resources produced in our territory are among our key assets for attractivity: vegetables, winery and fisheries. This means of course that the natural environment must be protected also under the perspective of preserving excellent agrifood production.

Furthermore, the Municipality have already started a project for the reuse of abandonded rail as green transport for eco-friendly tourism.
