Cesena is situated in Northern Italy within Emilia-Romagna Region, some 15km from the Adriatic coast. Together with Forlì it is the capital of the Forlì-Cesena district. The district has about 378,000 inhabitants in 30 municipalities. Cesena itself has a population of about 96.935 (2014).
The municipality has had a European Office within its own administration since 2007 and is staffed by an office manager and two policy officers.
The city has joined, as associated partner, the Forum Environment of Eurocities, the network of the major European cities. Moreover the city formerly belongs to the ICLEI network and is linked with Climate Alliance Italy, which is Supporting structure of Cesena for the monitoring of the Sustainable Energy Action Plan. Furthermore the municipality became a signatory to the Covenant of Mayors in November 2009 making a commitment to achieve the EU target of 20% of reduction of CO2 emissions. To meet obligations under the Covenant, the city designed and approved on December 2011 a Sustainable Energy Action Plan (SEAP). The Cesena SEAP has been recently approved by the Covenant of Mayor and the monitoring phase is being planned.
The European Office of the Cesena Municipality has run 13 European projects, 2 of them with the role of Lead partner.
Our Municipality is interested in taking part to a Med project focused on :
– Energy efficiency and Renewable Energy Resources (in public buildings)
