Summary of the project
The enhancement and development of sustainable coastal tourism lies in the heart of the MED programme’s new programming period.
Hence, it is of major importance for the participating countries to both identify the challenges that face coastal areas in the field of tourism and create the tools that will help them create a new, viable touristic product able to guarantee the sustainability and further development of tourism.
Nowadays, the tourism industry experiences the consequences of the financial crisis and it is fundamental for the entrepreneurs in the field of tourism not only to offer a competitive product but also to train themselves in order to acquire other skills that will assist in the effective management of their businesses. The cornerstone for economic growth and the development of sustainable tourism across the Mediterranean coastal area is the change of philosophy and vision within the tourism industry. The tourism entrepreneurs need to be properly mentored and trained in order to acquire sufficient managerial skills that will help them lead their businesses properly and face successfully the challenges which surfaced the global economy during the past years.
The MENTOR-MED project aims at developing the sustainable coastal tourism by strengthening the skills of the people involved in the field.
It is a multi-module project (M1+ M2) which moves in three axes of studying, testing and transferring. More precisely, the MENTOR-MED project aims at identifying firstly the mentoring needs of the tourism entrepreneurs, create the suitable tools in order to cover those needs and adapt a successful Certification Model for Tourism to a coastal Tourism model.
The second axis on which the project moves is this of testing. Main aim of this WP, which is closely related to the Studying WP, is to implement the tools created by the partnership and provide to a considerable amount of tourism entrepreneurs the skills that will help them enhance their managerial expertise and the product they offer.
The final axis of the MENTOR-MED project is this of transferring the results and the positives outcomes of the activities implemented in the first two WPs. This WP involves in high degree the transnational aspect of the project as it aims at transferring the results obtained in national level to an international level across the participating countries.
