    Cognition-Affection in Tourism for Cultural Heritage – CATCH

    Short description

    The Coastal Cultural Heritage of the Mediterranean basin is an increasing tourist destination but excessive flows may disnature, defeature or even permanently damage it.

    Hence the necessity to promote a cooperating conscious tourism using ICT technologies to enable a bi-directional information between users and administrators aimed at the safeguard of sites through a “cognition-affection” behaviour.

    The overall objective is to build a “barometer” model (a real-time detector of ‘what-is-underway’ in terms of conservation state, presence/occupancy intensity, user-site interaction) using case studies in different countries to have a wide response and taking into account different sites and tourists particularities available only at a transnational level; the expected change will be to build ‘resilient’ tourist destinations.

    The main outputs will be tools for sites characterizations (sites’ ‘ID card’); tools for ‘tourist-site’ interaction and a “barometer” model.

    The end-users of project results will be the Cultural Heritage Administrations; project activities will involve visitors as information providers and, after conclusion, indirect beneficiaries of improved visit environments and experiences.

    The main results indexes will be the improvement in the use of hinterland destinations (increase in visitors’ number), the dilution of coastal tourism flows in more months (seasonal peak reduction) and a general increase in overall visits in the whole regions.

    We are looking for:

    -) Design and development of smartphone apps (for communicating touristic information to final users/tourists);

    -) Design and development of software for economic platforms (Raspberry like) that interacts with smartphone for exchanging information.

    Proponent:
    National Research Council of Italy: Istituto per le Applicazioni del Calcolo, Istituto di Studi sui Sistemi Intelligenti per l’Automazione, Istituto per le Tecnologie della Costruzione, Istituto di Nanotecnologie, Istituto per la Conservazione e la Valorizzazione dei Beni culturali.

    Suggested partners (to be possibly engaged): Municipalities, Regions, Archaeological Parks, Natural Areas, ICT companies, Tour Operators, etc…

    Looking forward to receiving your feedback,
    please accept our kindest regards
