School of Advanced Social Studies (SASS)
is an independent research-oriented higher education institution in the field of social sciences, located in Nova Gorica (Slovenia), on the western border of Slovenia with Italy, and close to both Austria and Croatia.
The SASS’s focus on research is shaped by the:
• intercultural space in which it is located,
• transnational character of the region’s successful, smart and inclusive transformation from rural region to one with high value-added industry and tourism, in which knowledge has played the key role
The activities of the SASS are guided by strategic orientations towards interdisciplinary areas, internationalisation, excellence and applicability in teaching and research. In terms of measurable scientific achievements per registered researcher, SASS is currently a leading social science institution in Slovenia.
SASS has extensive experience with management and implementation of the EU co-financed projects. SASS is embedded in relevant international research networks, and it is hosting the National Committee of the UNESCO-sponsored programme, “Management of Social Transformations” (MOST2).
A recent example of our participation in the transnational cooperation programme is:
• Making Migration Work for Development (2012-2014) – Policy tools for strategic planning in SEE regions and cities – MMWD. Strategic project co-funded by the South East Europe Transnational Cooperation Programme, through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA).
Our primary interests are oriented towards encouraging collaborative creativity in the field of eco-tourism. Bringing together triple helix actors in the co-creative cross-border cooperation, we would like to contribute to improving regional policies and programmes supporting intertwinement of knowledge, touristic capacities and environmental sustainability into social innovations and thus contributing to greener and competitive developmental environments.
Our ideas point to co-designing interregional open innovation platform based on the macro regional action plan of eco-innovative tourism and following global matchmaking instrument for the regional needs. We would like to establish a tool for sharing the knowledge and providing new ways and initiatives to forge creative co-creation in the field of tourism, which would assist public authorities to be more effective in planning and implementing policies for regional development. Regional open innovation platform accordingly would attempt to contribute to enhancement of capital flows through cross-border cooperative networks, and developing links between enterprises, the higher education sector and developmental centres. It is attempting to promote investments in public service applications, in product and service development and in open eco-innovation through smart specialisation.
The SASS’s initiative is aiming to recognise specific regional profiles in the field of tourism in order to establish transnational cooperation and integration on the European and global level. Regional open innovation platform as the final product of the project tends to draw on analysis, dissemination and transfer of good practices and policy experiences among actors with an effort to more efficiently address the issues of tourism, which require intensive regional cooperation. One of the innovative aspects of co-creative touristic strategies is the way of recycling waste materials as side effects of tourism and strategies of re-using them for the same purposes, which should primarily be addressed on a regional or even on a local level. We are interested in being a partner or a coordintaor for the projects that have a further axis:
PRIORITY AXIS 3: PROTECTING AND PROMOTING MEDITERRANEAN NATURAL AND CULTURAL RESOURCES, OBJECTIVE 3.1: To enhance the development of a sustainable and responsible coastal and maritime tourism in the MED area.2 September 2015 at 10 h 24 min #3186

The LAG South Istria network includes 10 local governments and have a strong experience in mobilizing the local communities in being more active citizens; through a bottom up approach contributes to a sustainable development of the rural area. The LAGs current activities are directly related to the topic covered by the project proposal, i.e. the LAG South Istria has already organized a series of initiatives, events and educations with the aim of ensuring the flow of information and knowledge transfer for progress in the sustainable development of the rural economy and local communities, to develop synergies and networking between all entities who are interested in contributing to the development of rural areas reaching cohesion and the standards of the EU.
Recently, on behalf of its local authorities candidate a project with an overall objective to strengthen social cohesion and foster mutual understanding, tolerance and cooperation between countries and municipalities involved, through a bottom-up approach which will encourage sustainable rural development connected to tourism.
Some of the objectives of the project were
– Collecting and sharing best practices between high local officials, public administration experts, EU policy experts and local citizens on innovative ways of involvement of local citizens in the policy making/shaping process on local and EU level, specifically in the field of rural development and tourism which can serve as a good starting point for strengthening CBC and reducing poverty/unemployment in the municipalities involve.
– Enhancing informal education leading to a deep understanding of the issue through debates, workshops and cultural exchanges that will promote local, regional and transnational cohesion.
– Create positive conditions through the creation of interactive trans border touristic inteneraries/maps.
3)To develop a Policy Research Paper on the Impact of Rural Tourism on the development of the European Rural Territories

Our institution represents 171 municipalities and includes an important geographical diversity: from the highest mountain of the Iberian Peninsula with an important sky resort to a subtropical coast. Many of our municipalities have less of 5.000 inhabitants. So the biggest part of our territory has a rural character. And rural tourism is one of the main keys for their development
I write you from the Department of Employment and Sustainable Development of the “Diputación de Granada”. Main points of our work program are: 1) European Programs for economic promotion; 2) Strategic planning programme of the provincial territory 2) Self-employment and company consolidation; 3) Training for Employment. 4) Promotion of Rural Development 5) Support programme for the modernisation and quality of local public services 6) Social Responsibility Programme
We have great experience in the implementation of projects funded by European programmes, as leaders and as partners, in the framework of the several European Programmes and Funds. Many of them are linked to rural tourism. We could maybe to highlight:
– – CesR: Support local rural entities to promote job mutualism in services sector linked to tourism and social services (INTERREG IV C)
– TOURAGE: Promote senior tourism as a tool to promote employment and development of rural areas (INTERREG IV C)
– CULTURMED: Promote natural, cultural, historical and landscape heritage of Alpujarra area to support the declaration of this territory as part of World Heritage (POCTEFEX, Spain – Morocco)In case you consider we could be an interesting partner for your project, here you can have my contact data:

Andrea SannaDear Jana,
my name is Andrea Sanna and I’m an associate professor at the computer science department of Politecnico di Torino, Italy. Reading your project idea, I thought that my research group, some years ago, was involved in a Leonardo project where the problem was to find the best match between job offers and candaites’ curriculum: this kind of problem is known as “job match-making”. A similar approach could be used to recognise specific regional profiles in the field of tourism.
If you are interested in more information about our skills, don’t hesistate to contact me.
Best regards,
Andrea2 October 2015 at 11 h 46 min #6219Dear Jana,
We consider your proposal very interesting and strongly related to our experience in research and VET and WE WOULD LIKE TO BE A PARTNER FROM ITALY.
In the following a short presentation.
My name is Luigi Scognamiglio and I’m the Director of Associazione Sviluppo Innovazione Ambiente, a Not for Profit organisation established in 2000 and officially accredited from 2004 for Vocational Educational Training (VET) from Molise region. In the 2006 ASIA with the Leonardo Project I.F.D. (Instructor for Driving) has been awarded with others Partners by the “Helsinki Award” for V.Q.T.S., Vocational Qualification Transfer System, for excellent practice in addressing the priorities of the Copenhagen process and promoting an enhanced European co-operation in vocational education and training.
From 2007 ASIA has been officially included with the code 58352WPU (D.P.R. n. 382 of the 11/July/1980) in the “Anagrafe Nazionale Ricerche” (National Register for Research of the Italian Ministry for University and Research). ASIA is promoting partner in the Rural Development field because is official Member of the LAG (Local Action Group) Consortium ASVIR, grouping 18 Public and Privates Enterprises, Associations, Chambers of Commerce, Regional Agency for Rural Development and Innovation, and Authorities, more than Province and 50 Municipalities operating on the EU LEADER Program.
The ASIA’s Quality Management System is certified ISO 9001 from 2002 within sector 37 “Education”.We think that your project could be considered as related also for a proposal on Erasmus+ about Innovative learning systems for European Sustainable tourism. The World Tourism Organization’s forecasts that Europe will be a major destination, with tourism grooving from 169 million in 2010 to 264 million in 2030.
Our idea aims to propose a strategic partnership to strengthen learning actions to increase labour market relevance of VET provision and reducing skill mismatches and shortages in sustainable tourism through exchange of experience, e-cooperation, e-learning, Best Practices Exchanges (BPE) for existing and future operators and entrepreneurs following a shared vision.
The idea builds on existing learning and knowledge, and asks for the improvement of curricula to better answer to the new needs of a smart growth, more green and competitive (sustainable) and with more high-employment opportunities delivering social and territorial cohesion will contribute to achieving Europe 2020 Strategy target in virtues of its function as a driver for growth and job creation and reducing its environmental impact. So, We would like to be the Italian partner of Your project and We would like collaborate in developping this and others

MaurizioHallo,
municipality of Vibo Valentia is very interesting to participate as partner of your proposal.
The valorisation of heritage and tourism development are priorities and goals of the city administration.
Vibo Valentia is a city and comune (municipality) in the Calabria region of southern Italy, on the Tyrrhenian Sea. It is the capital of the province of Vibo Valentia, and is an agricultural, commercial and tourist center (the most famous places nearby are Tropea, Ricadi and Pizzo).
Main sights
– Norman-Hoehenstaufen Castle, located most likely on the site of Hipponion acropolis, and built around 1000. For its construction materials from the Greek temples nearby were used. It was damaged by an earthquake in 1783. Today the castle is home to archaelogical museum.
– Walls of Hipponion, including about 350 metres (1,150 ft) of remains and foundations of eight towers, each with an estimated height of 10 metres (33 ft).
– Church of Santa Maria Maggiore e San Leoluca (Cathedral), built in the 9th century over the remains of a Byzantine basilica. It has an 18th-century marble high altar with a 16th-century sculpture of “Madonna della Neve”, and a Renaissance triptych.
Church of Santa Ruba (c. 1000), built by Pope Callixtus II. It has a large cupola in Oriental style.
Church of the Rosario (c. 1337), located over a Roman temple. Originally in Gothic style, it was remade after the 1783 earthquake.
If you are interesting to involve as partner please contact me
